“I am both proud and happy that we can now present our very first employees in Tromsø. We have had many strong applicants from home and abroad, and great interest in the fund. It is a narrow needle eye that Ulf, Tonje and Ola have got through,” says Kjetil Houg, CEO of Folketrygdfondet.
From London to Tromso
Ulf Nore from Bergen has twelve years of experience from the financial environment in London. He comes from IQON Capital and has previously worked at QuadReal Property Group, Aegila Capital and Norges Bank Investment Management. Har holds a degree in Economics from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH), a civil engineer from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and holds an MBA from INSEAD.
“The combination of the Folketrygdfondet and establishing a fund from scratch is something I look forward to being a part of. It is also exciting to move back to Norway and establish yourself in Tromsø,” says Nore.
Local anchoring
Tonje Roti from Tromsø has eight years of experience from PwC and Nord Kapitalin his hometown. She comes from the position of Senior Manager in PwC's deals team and is a graduate business economist from NHH.
This was a unique opportunity that I could not let go. I naturally know Tromsø very well and am very excited to be part of the Folketrygdfondet. For me, it will be a short move, since Folketrygdfondet is moving into the same office building as PwC,” says Roti.
Internal competence
Ola Oppegaard from Oslo has three years of experience from Folketrygdfondet, where he has gone from trainee, to junior analyst and analyst since the new year. He holds a degree in Economics from BI Business School.
“I am very happy in the Folketrygdfondet and I look forward to being involved in setting up a new fund. It will also be exciting to move to Tromsø which is a city I have a very good impression of,” says Oppegaard.
All three will start as portfolio managers on 15 April 2025, and will be based at the new office in Muségata 1 in the Mack quarter in Tromsø.
“The trustees have presented exciting thoughts on how we can solve the mandate and deliver the highest possible return on the assignment we have received. We will continue recruiting for the Tromsø team and hope to make the first investment soon,” concludes Kjetil Houg.
This will be the State Fund in Tromsø
- A new team is recruited to Tromsø to invest in shares in smaller listed companies in the Nordic region.
- Investment framework of NOK 15 billion from start-up, with the possibility of increasing to NOK 30 billion once some experience has been gained
- The benchmark index is a market-weighted Nordic index of smaller listed companies with a total market value of approximately NOK 1500 billion, adjusted for free flow, and adjusted for companies already included in the benchmark index of SPN.
- Swedish companies account for about half of the investment universe, followed by Danish (22 percent), Finnish (13 percent), Norwegian (9 percent) and Icelandic (6 percent) companies.
- The top three sectors will be industry (27 per cent), health (25 per cent) and finance (21 per cent).
