Chief has found his heir: Promises to do deep dive into venture industry
After four years as head of Norwegian Venture Capital Association (NVCA) thanking Rikke Eckhoff Chief in April, to become a government liaison at Nordea.
This week, her replacement became ready, after two months of intensive hunting. Head of press of the state venture investment company Argentum, Ellen Amalie Vold, has only one year of experience in the industry, but will from May head the interest organisation for the active ownership funds in Norway.
“You've only been in the industry for one year, are you afraid you have too little experience?
— No. I have plenty of experience with communication and performing the kind of tasks the role requires. I also take new things fast. And in a job where you're going out to see the experts, because I'm not supposed to be, and convey their interests, that's important. I'm confident that I can do this, and the board has given me the confidence, so now it's just about delivering.
Why did you want the job?
“The opportunity to work on issues that are exciting, in a way that is fun. That the means are fun; like meeting people, hearing what they're into, listening. And, of course, do something about it. The job is varied, action-packed, and I'll be doing various things, both with media attention and politically. I like the variety and the cases.
Calls for “real change”
How do you attack the position?
First of all, I'm going to go around and meet the members. I've only been in the industry for one year, so even though I have a pretty good overall overview, I have to spend time initially doing deep dives into parts of the industry. And then I need to get to know the people and the companies before I set myself a nail agenda.
Still, she has already seen out some clear areas of focus. Including sustainable investments and to increase the proportion of women in the venture industry.
There was a lot of talk about this long before I got into the business. Now is the time to get concrete plans for real change. So I'll probably dive even more into how to get something done about it.
And then, of course, this comes with option taxation still to be important. Rikke has worked hard and long on this, and has made some changes. But there are hopes that more can be done, she adds.
The Headhunt
Herittaker Vold naturally knows outgoing NVCA chief Eckhoff Høvding through the roles the two have had recently. And the path the two have taken, which led to the chief executive job at NVCA, is not dissimilar.
Before Eckhoff Høvding went to the interest organization, she was head of communications at Argentum, where Vold works now. Both have also worked in the consultancy Burson-Marsteller (now BCW).
Vold says that she spoke to Høvding about the new position in the autumn, and that shortly afterwards she was contacted by the agency Ascender about the job. Chief states that she had conversations with a number of potential candidates and that interest in the position was great - without her knowing the exact number of applicants.
After further conversations with several of the board members of the organization, Vold decided to take the job.
Why are you the best fit to take over this job?
“As a consultant, I had to listen to the client's needs and do something about it, in the most efficient and considerate way possible. I'm used to speaking and talking to the media.
